Vera Marie Payne

Vera Marie Payne, 89, of Marietta, passed away on Friday, February 13 at Altercare Summit Acres in Caldwell.

She was born August 12, 1936 in Parkersburg to Arthur and Marie Baker. She graduated from PHS in 1954 and retired from Dravo. She was a member of the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries.

Vera married Clifford Raymond Payne in 1968 who passed away in 1994. She was preceded in death by her loving brother, Thomas Payne, niece and nephew-in-law, Cheryl and Steve Rake, and nephew, Lawrence Baker. She was also preceded in death by her very good friend, Bill Starr.

She is survived by two great-nephews, Rick (Janice) Nolan and Jeremy Nolan and several nieces and nephews. Vera is also survived by her life-long childhood friend, Reatha Goddard.

We would like to thank Summit Acres, Amedisys, and Right at Home. A special thank you goes to Kalitta, who Vera referred to as “her girl”. Kalitta provided such comfort and companionship to Vera in the last couple of years.

A visitation will be held on Thursday (Feb. 19) from 5:00 until 7:00 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Private burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordhf.com
