Victor D. McCracken
Victor D. McCracken, 92, of Marietta passed away at 7:40am, Friday, August 21, 2015, at his home. He was born June 25, 1923, in Glen Easton, West Virginia, a son of Harry S. and Cora N. Martin McCracken.
Vic was employed by the Marietta Police Department for 11 years, retiring due to a motorcycle accident. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the Sixth and Washington Street Church of Christ. He was a 70-year member of American Legion Post 64, serving on the funeral detail for over 2,000 funerals, and was an avid bowler. He enjoyed boating, fishing and most of all golf. He was a great supporter of his children and grandchildren.
On August 22, 1947, he married Mary C. Lantz who survives with one son and four daughters: William L. McCracken, Carol S. McCracken, Marty (Ralph) Shuttleworth, Donna (Rick) Beaver all of Marietta and Tish Foster (Craig) of Mayfield Village, OH; grandchildren: Michael, Stephen, Stacy, Ricki and Christopher, 13 great grandchildren, sister Nora Moore of Marietta and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Crystal McCracken, daughter-in-law Lana McCracken, sister Betty Magers and brothers; Arlie, Charlie and Harry McCracken.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (Aug. 25) at 1:00pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Roger Rush officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4:00pm on Monday. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
