Wayne Ullman

 

Another veteran has died…Wayne E. Ullman, 85 of Lower Salem passed away at his home on Thursday, January 27, 2011.

He was born on March 8, 1925, in Lower Salem, a son of Harry and Freda Payne Ullman.  Wayne was a graduate of Lower Salem High School in 1943 and retired after 39 ½ years from B. F. Goodrich and owned and operated Ashland Gas Station in Lower Salem.    He was a 60-year member of Aurelius Masonic Lodge of  Macksburg, a lifetime member of VFW, Shrine Club, American Legion Post 64, and a life member of 40 & 8.  He served as Mayor of Lower Salem for 16 years, served as Salem Liberty School Board President and was a member of the Republican Central Committee.  He was an Army veteran of WWII serving in the Pacific.  Wayne loved making wine.

He is survived by his significant other for 34 years, Peggy Cleveland and children:  Bonnie (Frank) Schott of Dexter City, Barbara (Dale) Holbert of Walker, WV, Mike (Becky) Kirkbride of Whipple, several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  He is also survived by 2 sisters and 1 brother:  Mildred (Don) McCain, Dorothy (Norman) Wilkenson and Daniel Ullman and his significant other Sue all of Marietta and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 sisters:  Gertrude Reed, Gladys Bowen and Caroline Brackenridge and son Charles A. Kirkbride.

Funeral services will be held on Monday (January 31st) at 1:00 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral home with Pastor Lou Verdi officiating.  Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 2:00pm on Sunday with family present from 2-4 & 6-8
