William H. Schmelzenbach
William H. Schmelzenbach, 83, of Marietta, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013, at 5:45 pm at his home. He was born on October 2, 1929, in Sebring, Ohio, a son of Harold “Pop” and Freda Schmelzenbach.
He graduated from Marietta High School in 1948 where he ran track and held many records. He then joined the U.S. Navy and served on the USS Leyte. Bill had worked for Overland Trucking and Bell Lines Trucking before retiring with Central Ohio Coal as a coal hauler. He loved to race boats and barefoot ski up until the age of 65. He was a member of the Marietta First Church of the Nazarene where he was very active and did nursing home visits.
He is survived by his wife Helen Schmelzenbach whom he married in 1985. He is also survived by his children: Harold Tracey (Janet) Schmelzenbach of Caldwell, Terry (Susan) Schmelzenbach of Marietta, Nancy (Bill) Burnett of Marietta; 5 stepchildren: Linda (Roger) Dille, Patty Anderson, Bill (Janet) Kinney, Teresa Wincheck, Pamela Elam; 12 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 1 great, great grandchild and his sister Annetta “Nan” (John R.) McClure of Atlanta, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert Schmelzenbach, sister Betty Kinzie, stepmother Opal Schmelzenbach.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday (July 6) at 11:00 am at Marietta Church of the Nazarene. Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home beginning on Friday at 2 pm with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 and on Saturday at the church one hour before the service.
