William R. Wittekind

William R. Wittekind, 94, of Marietta, passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2010, at 10:50 pm at Harmar Place.

He was born on July 6, 1916, at Moore’s Junction to William R. Wittekind, Sr. and Ada May Mercer Wittekind.  He retired in 1981 after 39 years from W. H. Heiby Company where he was an operating engineer.  He was a life member of Eagles Aerie 458, Moose Lodge 1823 and Moose Legion, a member of Operating Engineers Union and enjoyed 4-wheelers, his dog and cats and gardening.

On June 4, 1937, he was married to Nellie Fay Hendershot by Reverend Ash at his home in Oak Grove.  She survives with 1 son, Delmar (Nancy) Wittekind of Marietta; grandchildren:  Debra (Mike) Leffew of Salisbury, NC, Julia (Boyd) Evans of Marietta, Cara (Dean) Canter of Marietta, Jacqueline (Steve) Carpenter of Dingmans Ferry, PA, Delmar (Leslie) Wittekind, II of Marietta, Tony (Stephanie) Wittekind of Lowell and 5 great granddaughters, 10 great grandsons, 2 great, great granddaughters, and 7 great, great grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, granddaughter Billi Jo Wittekind, brother Everett Wittekind, sister Wilma LeMasters and infant brother Grayden.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday (August 5th) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Gale Lauderman officiating.  Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 4:00 pm on Wednesday.
