Doris Irene Pease

Doris Irene Pease, 97,  died September, 13 , 2013 at the Pines of Glenwood where she resided for the last three years. She was born in Byron, New York, daughter of Melvin and Bertha Perreault Matteson, on December 9,1915.   She was preceded in death by four brothers, Kenneth, Rowland, Raymond and Harold.

She attended school in Akron and Buffalo, New York, and was graduated from New York State College at Buffalo. She taught elementary school in Gasport, Akron and Lewiston, New York as well as Marietta.

In 1941, she was married to Gordon Sherman Pease.  They moved to Marietta in 1964 where he worked for Union Carbide Corp.   He preceded her in death in December of 2000.

She worked with both the Boy and Girl Scouts and loved the out of doors. She also enjoyed crafts, sewing, ceramics, quilting and especially painting.   Her love of nature included avid bird watching and growing and arranging flowers. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and it's United Methodist Women, remaining active in both. For many years she and her husband were also active in Y'sMen, Civitan, and delivered Franciscan meals. They also loved to camp and travel, spending time in all 50 states as well as many countries in Europe.

She is survived by one daughter, Sheryl (Paul) Hoffman, of Marietta and one daughter-in-law. Rev. Lynn Pease of Dublin, OH; seven grandchildren: Jennifer Uhlhorn(Chris) of Grove City, OH; Andrew Hoffman(Heather) of West Plains, MO;   Rebecca Brown (Ty) of Powell, OH; Deborah Hoffman of Columbus, OH; Jason Pease (Karen) of Hilliard, OH; Bradley Pease (leva) of Latvia; and Elizabeth Vance(Bob) of Doha, Qatar.  She also has eleven wonderful great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son. Dr. Sherman Pease of Plain City, OH.

Services will be held at Christ United Methodist on Sunday (Sept. 15) at 3:00pm with Reverend Don Archer officiating.  McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family and messages of sympathy may be sent at www.lankfordfh.com.
