Darrell F. Barnes, Jr. “Big D”
Darrell F. Barnes, Jr. “Big D”, 64, of Whipple, passed away at 12:30 pm at his home on Friday, November 1, 2013. He was born on September 9, 1949, in Parkersburg, WV, a son of Darrell F. Barnes, Sr. and Dorothy Warren Barnes.
“Big D” graduated with the class of 1967 from Lawrence High School. He was a mechanic and owned and operated the Whipple Garage, was paper carrier for Marietta A.M. and Marietta Times and owner of Big D’s Karaoke. He was a T-Ball coach at Salem Elementary and loved all the old TV shows and “Days of Our Lives.” He taught his boys how to drive cars on back roads.
On November 9, 1974, he married Dorothy Thompson Barnes who survives with their children: Deidre (Rod) Hendershot, Tonya (Ed) Grimsley, Jackie (Darren) Kirkbride, Jonathon (Jessica) Barnes, Justin (Angie) Barnes, Catlin (Nikki Harding, several grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Gale (Ann) Barnes and Warren (Carol) Barnes.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (Nov. 6) at 1:00 pm at the Holy Smoke Event Center in Whipple with Pastor Lou Verdi officiating. Burial will follow in Waxler Cemetery.
