Thelma June Bookman

Thelma June Bookman, 81, of Newport, passed away 4:50 pm Thursday July 21, 2011 at Rivierside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

She was born June 2, 1930 at Dart to Gerald Walter and Dorothy Helen (Binegar) Brooks.  Thelma had been employed at the Frontier School District for 33 years be for her retirement and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church.

On June 21, 1949 she married  Donn Douglas Bookman who survives with children Gary Donn (Karen Sue) Bookman of New Matamoras, Shelda Jean Moore of Dart, Douglas Dean Bookman of New Matamoras, Gerald Howard (Sue) Bookman of Newport, Sarah Jane (Jeffrey Greenwood) Murphy of Newport and Joey Gale (Juanita) Bookman of McAllen, TX.  Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren a brother Dudley (Rosemary) Brooks and sisters Helen (Junior) Nolan and Wanda (Pat) Offenberger.  Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents Thelma was preceded in death by grandchildren Roger Moore and Frankie Bookman, a sister Lillian Schultheisz, a son-in-law Harry “Nookie” Metheney, and brothers-in-law Ronald Gilchrist and Mark Schultheisz.

Funeral services will be held 11 am Monday July 25th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Doug Brown officiating.  Burial will follow at Eddy’s Ridge Cemetery.  Friends may call the funeral home beginning at 2 pm Sunday.
