Harley Gilbert Noland

Harley G. Noland, 98, of Cincinnati, Ohio, formerly of Marietta, Ohio, passed away on Tuesday, July 4th, 2017 at The Lodge in Cincinnati.
 
Harley was born on August 17th, 1918 in Constitution, Ohio, the son of Blanche Weaver and Charles Noland.  He graduated Marietta College in 1940, a member of the DKE fraternity and the school tennis and racing shell teams.  Following college he joined the U.S. Navy, serving for two years in the Pacific as a combat pilot.
 
On his return from World War II Harley married Phyllis Wood on August 17th, 1944.  Harley and Phyllis were partners for 66 years, living with their family  in Florida, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, New Jersey, North Carolina, Massachusetts and Ohio.
In his career Harley worked for several firms, notably 34 years with Union Carbide Corporation as Director of Distribution.  In South Charleston, West Virginia, Harley served on city council and headed the United Way fund campaign.  He also was national President of the American Waterways Association.
Harley and Phyllis were longtime members of the First Congregational Church of Yarmouth, Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts.
 
Harley is survived by his sons, Lloyd Fredrick and Charles Wood as well as grandchildren John Christopher, James Allen, Christina Louise and Charles Fredrick and great-grandchildren Sylvia and Jordon Noland.  He was predeceased by his wife, Phyllis, brother, Lloyd Henry, and sister, Clara Lucile.
 
Visitation will be at McClure Schafer Lankford Funeral Home in Marietta on Saturday, July 8th from 11am to 1pm.  Graveside services will be held at East Lawn Memorial Park at 1:30 pm.
