Irene West

Irene West, 89, went to the Lord, our Savior this past weekend. Irene was born in Moundsville, WV to the Late Russell & Edith Morgan. She was the eldest of eight children, all girls.

Irene married Wilbert West (deceased) and moved to Canton OH, where she was a housewife and became the mother of two daughters, Linda and Naomi. She stayed active in church work, Canton South Mother Singers, and a Girl Scout Leader.

Upon Wilbert’s retirement they moved to Lake Panasoffkee FL, where she was an active member of the Tracy Point Community Club, Young at Hearts, Sumpter Super Seniors, Sunshine Club, Treasurer of Sumpter County AARP, Secretary of the Inter-Denominational Prayer Chain at the Lake, and the Church of God of Prophecy in Leesburg, FL.

Irene and Wilbert moved back to the Mid-Ohio Valley in the 8O’S and were residing in Marietta when Wilbert passed away. She moved in with her daughter, Linda Smith in Navarre, OH. At the time of her passing she was living with her daughter, Naomi Cox, in Davisville, WV, where she regularly attended the Kanawha United Methodist Church. The Pastors called her their “Little Song Bird” because she loved to sing praises to the Lord.

She loved helping others, taking them into her home, helping at the nursing homes, and visiting at the hospitals. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and sisters, Reah Brooks and Rosalee Emery.

She is survived by her sisters, Norma Pierce (Ray), Shirley Drake, Betty Enoch-Haught (Neil), Bonnie Tustin, and Louise Holden-Smith (Russell). Her two daughters; Linda Smith of Navarre Ohio, and Naomi Cox (Ron) of Davisville, WV. Six grandchildren; Edward V. Smith Jr. (Joanne), Fonda Migliore (Dave), Lorraine Reynolds (Joseph), Tammy Holshu (Henry), Glen W. Smith (Lori), and Kristy Werstler (Matthew). Great Grand Children; Katy and Jenny Smith, Cody Irwin, Christopher Chevalier, Ashley McCoy (Bud), Levi Mugrage, Kevin aka KAS, Haden, and Hallie Smith, and Great-Great Grandchild Drake Graham McCoy born on March 31, 2011.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (April 6) at 10:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Jamie Sprague, Reverend Dale Holden and Reverend Rod Blanchard officiating.  Burial will follow in Knob Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday after 2:00.
