Richard “Dick” Spindler, Jr.

Dick passed away on April 1, 2011, at The Arbors of Marietta.  He was born December 3, 1942, to Betty Addlesburger and the late Richard A. Spindler, Sr.

He attended the Marietta Church of God. Dick was an avid softball player for many years, playing on various teams in the Marietta-Parkersburg area.  He also enjoyed basketball, bowling and golf.  Dick retired from DuPont in 2001 after 35 years service.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Diane Swaney Spindler, 2 daughters, Brenda Oliver of Parkersburg and Keri Spindler and fiancée John Bishop of Marietta; 3 grandchildren, who were the loves of his life: Brittni Oliver, Devin and Derek Bules.  Also his sister Deborah (Neil) Fritsche of Marietta; nephews:  Chris Fritsche, Larry McIntire; nieces:  Lorie Wallace, Megan (Ben) Williams all of Marietta; mother and father-in-law, Gerald and Eileen Swaney, brothers-in-law:  Randy (Janet) Swaney, J. P. (Lori) Swaney, sister-in-law, Geraldine (Tom) Yakubik along with several cousins.

A special heartfelt thank you to Floyd and Wanda Schmidt, Bill Jahn, Mary Jo Bryan and Danny Oliver.  Also we would like to thank Dr. Kelli Cawley and staff at the Strecker Cancer Center, Drs. Dehmlow and Leopold, The Arbors and staff for their loving care during his courageous battle with cancer.

At Dick’s request he will be cremated and a memorial service will be held 11 am, Saturday, April 9th at The Marietta Church of God.  McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family.
