Michael “Mike” Steven Gibbs

Michael “Mike” Steven Gibbs, 57, of Marietta, passed away in the loving arms of his wife at Camden Clark Medical Center on Monday, March 21, 2011, at 3:06 am.

He was born in Marietta, on July 22, 1953, a son of the late Edward R. Gibbs and Bernadine Gibbs.  He had attended Marietta High School and had been employed by Kardex, Magnum Magnetics and High-Vac until his forced retirement due to ill health.  Mike was an avid softball player for many years and was well known at all area softball fields.  He loved all sports especially football and college women’s basketball, his favorite teams were WVU and Cleveland Browns,  He was a member of Gilman United Methodist Church.

On April 10, 1979, he married the love of his life, Mashellda Alfred Gibbs who survives with daughter Renee Harvey, and sons, Jason (Lisa) Gibbs and Brandon (Debbie) Gibbs; grandchildren:  Trey and Reid Harvey and Brock and Gage Gibbs, and unborn grand daughter due to arrive in April, Addison Gibbs.  He is also survived by children Michael Scott and Deanne Gibbs, grandson Wesley, grand daughters:  Brittany, Taylor, Morgan and great grandson, Jasper. Surviving are brothers Rick (Diane) Gibbs and Marty (Debbie) Gibbs; sisters, Raean (Jim) Davis and Jo (John) Richardson, mother-in-law and father-in-law, Pat and John Alfred  and his 2 faithful companions:  Boxers, “Zoey” and “Mya.”

He was preceded in death by his father and his 2 faithful companions:  Boxers, “Bria” and “Swade.”

Funeral services will be held on Friday (March 25) at 10:30 am at Gilman United Methodist Church with Reverend Diann O’Bryant officiating.  Burial will follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Thursday beginning at 3:00 pm with family present from 3 –5 and 7-9 and at the church on Friday one hour before the service.
