Thomas E. Brookover
Thomas E. Brookover, 76, of Poplar Avenue, Williamstown, died at 6:45 p.m. Friday (April 13, 2007) at Good Samaritan Hospital, Zanesville, Ohio.
He was born in Wood County, W.Va., on Jan. 2, 1931, to Luther Mack Brookover and Lola Pearl Lauderman Brookover. He served 24 years in the U.S. Army, retiring at the rank of sergeant first class. Having served two tours in Korea and two in Vietnam, he was highly decorated, including the Purple Heart with two Oak Leaf Clusters. Tom was also a life member of the VFW Post 5108.
Mr. Brookover is survived by his wife, Carolyn; one son and three daughters, Thomas Brookover Jr. (Jody) of Devola, Kathy Ellen Brookover of Lewisburg, W.Va., Judy Platounaris (George) of Logan, Ohio, and Susan Hiles (Michael) of Williamstown; four surviving grandchildren, Shyane Hiles, Nicholas Platounaris, and Madeline and Matthew Brookover; and four surviving siblings, three brothers and one sister, Warren Brookover of Reno, Garland Brookover of Little Hocking, Jimmy Brookover of Lowell, and Ellen Fraser of Williamstown.
He was predeceased by his parents and one infant brother.
Tom had many interests, including hunting, fishing, carpentry and mechanics, and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He especially loved activities with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery with full military honors. Friends may call at the funeral home until the time of the service on Tuesday.
