Chester W. Reynolds Sr
Chester W. Reynolds Sr., 88, of Marietta, went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 26, 2009, at his home.
He was born January 8, 1921, in Wood County, WV, one of 11 children, to Lillian and Harvey Reynolds.
He was a US Army WWII Veteran who served in the Asiatic theater under General
McArthur and received 2 Bronze Stars and a Victory Medal. He enjoyed farming; especially working with draft horses and participated in many events around our region involving his horses. He retired from the Ohio Department of Highways, having worked as a mechanic and later as the assistant superintendent of the district. He was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church, St. Marys, WV, and the Ohio Draft Horse Association.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Joretta Wheaton Reynolds, five sons and five daughters, Bob (Patty) and Tom (Dee) of Newport, Betty O'Brien (Randy), Naomi Peton (Jacques) and Chester Jr. (Nancy) of Marietta, Michael (Audrey) of St. Marys, Roy (Alice) of Byesville, Patty Montgomery of Louisville, KY, Bobbi Hatcher (Chris) of Parkersburg and Teresa Hall (J.R.) of Canton, Georgia, 21 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, two brothers, Carl of Williamstown and Earl of Vincent and three sisters, Virginia Boso of Little Hocking, Florida Sholes and Dollie Patterson, both of Parkersburg. He is also survived by several stepchildren and step grand-children, including, Steve Wheaton (Karen), Stefanie Wheaton Arnold (Don) and their children.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years, Garnet Behlke Reynolds; his second wife of 11 years, Bertha Eddy Reynolds, a son, Chester Wayne and a daughter, Dolly Louise, a great-granddaughter Lacey Hupp and brothers, Harvey Jr., Ralph and Virgil and sisters, Gladys and Inis.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday (Sept. 29th) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Reynolds and Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Tunnel Cemetery with full military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 pm on Monday and one hour before the service.
