Freda I. Hill
Freda Ione Adamson Hill, 91, of Marietta, passed away on Tuesday evening, July 7, 2009, at The Inn at Marietta where she had resided for the past 4 years.
She was born on December 10, 1917, in New Matamoras, Ohio, a daughter of the late Perley C. and Mata Miller Adamson. Freda was a member of First Congregational Church, a life member of Matamoras area Historical Society and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was a graduate of New Matamoras High School, Class of 1935, and had been employed at Singer Sewing Machine Company and Ash Hanson Greenhouse. Freda had traveled extensively throughout North America, seeing much of the United States including Hawaii and Alaska as well as Canada. She had also traveled to Europe, visiting France, Belgium, Hungary, Germany, Austria and the Scandinavian countries. She enjoyed working puzzles, crocheting, arranging floral bouquets and being outside and working in her flowerbeds.
On May 20, 1939, she married George Franklin Hill in St. Marys, WV. He preceded her in death on September 26, 2004.
Freda is survived by her sons: Perley F. (Madeline) Hill and Gary L. (Barbara) Hill; grandchildren: James F. (Jessica) Hill, Lisa R. (Tim) Saunders, Lori M. (Mike) McVey, Tessa M. Hill, Treva S. (Joe) Huffman, Tyson Q. Hill; great grandchildren: Joshua and Justin Hill, Taylor and Cydnee Saunders, Ryan, Kyle and Evan McVey, Lucas, Zachery and Ava Huffman. She is also survived by brothers-in-law: Aldin “Bud” Harris and Arch Hill; sister-in-law Dimmie Turner and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one grandchild, Debra K. Hill, and siblings: Alta I. (Paul) Smith, Evelyn P. (James) Mildren and Ella P. Harris.
Funeral services will be held on Friday (July 10th) at 10:30 am at First Congregational Church with Reverend Linda Steelman officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Thursday evening beginning at 6:00 with family present from 6 until 8.
