MaryAnn (Kinney) Sandstrom

Portrait of MaryAnn (Kinney) Sandstrom

MaryAnn (Kinney) Sandstrom, age 83, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on March 13, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. As one of the eldest grandchildren of the late Charley O Clark, MaryAnn was a cherished daughter of the late Denver Wilson “Ted” Kinney and Thelma Devota (Clark) Kinney. She was born on May 13, 1940 in Toledo Ohio.

She was the beloved wife of Kenneth Ray Sandstrom of Marietta OH for nearly 37 years; a loving sister to Ted Alan Kinney of Dublin OH and Clark Evans Kinney (deceased); and a devoted mother to Natalie Ann (Bill) Giles of Cary NC; Nannette Marie (Jim) Knellinger of Frankfort KY and David Allen Lenington of Marietta, OH.

Her legacy extends through her grandchildren: Zebulon Martin, Adrienne Austin, Michelle Cator, Raquelle Combs, Eli and Cady Lenington; and her great-grandchildren Alaric and Leyna Martin; Asher, Ephraim, Pierson and Eliza Austin; Michael, Christian and Mallory Cator. MaryAnn was also a caring aunt to Erin and Brian and a great aunt to Caleb, Lila, Brooks and Ellie.

MaryAnn’s love for her small chihuahuas, Roo and Scooter, reflected her capacity for love, extending even to her beloved pets, who became like children to her. She was also an avid reader, loved history, working puzzles and watching the birds and squirrels.

MaryAnn’s life was a testament to her strength, resilience and unwavering faith. An active member in the AA Recovery Community for over 40 years, she embodied the spirit of service and compassion, dedicating her life to helping others find their path to recovery and their Higher Power.

In the 1990’s, alongside her husband Ken, she founded “Our Father’s House” in St Petersburg FL, a haven for those struggling with addiction. Her professional achievements include her certification as an Addiction Professional where she became Manager at PCAS (Pinellas County Addiction Services). She was a guiding light for many, through their darkest times.

Her commitment to her community extended through her active involvement with the Colonial Dames XVII Century, where she served in the capacity of Chapter President, State President (2009-2011) and Treasurer. She was also an instrumental member of the Committee of “Citizens to Save the Armory” in Marietta OH.
A believer in Christ, MaryAnn was a vibrant member of The Marietta Celebration Center, where she loved to sing praise songs and worship with all of her heart. Her voice was a beacon of joy and faith.

In her late 70’s MaryAnn pursued a lifelong dream, becoming a published author, by channeling her creative energy into writing and illustrating the children’s book “Cady Cicada Goes UP TOP”. This accomplishment was a testament to her belief that it is never too late to follow one’s dreams.
Despite the challenges she faced with her health, MaryAnn’s spirit never wavered. Her faith, love for her family and commitment to helping others remained steadfast. She touched the hearts of many with her kindness, generosity and unwavering support. Her generosity continues after life by donating her body to the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Athens OH.

MaryAnn Sandstrom’s remarkable journey through life leaves behind a legacy of love, faith and service. Her memory will be cherished and celebrated at a Celebration of Life Luncheon on Sunday, April 7, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Freedom Gate Church’s Fellowship Hall, 104 Tennis Center Dr, Marietta OH with Pastor Gordie Deer officiating. We invite all who had the privilege of knowing her to come say “Goodbye and Thank You” to MaryAnn for the light she brought in to this world. Her spirit will forever inspire us to live with courage, love with all of our hearts and make a difference in the lives of others.

Her family is eternally grateful for the love, compassion and care that her dear friends, Julie and Keith Worstell bestowed on MaryAnn and Ken over the past several years.

Memorial contributions may be made to your local Humane Society in her honor.
