Vernice L. Rinard

Vernice Lucille Smith Rinard, 82, former resident of Marietta Ohio, died May 23rd, 2009 at the Kobacker House Hospice in Columbus, Ohio, surrounded by her daughters.

She was born June 19, 1925 in Arvilla, West Virginia, the daughter of the late Nora Williamson and Pearly Smith. On May 30, 1948 she married Ralph Emerson Rinard, who preceded her in death in 1998. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister Pearl Smith and brothers, Paul and Phillip.

Vernice volunteered with several service clubs, including the Washington County and Northwood Extension Clubs, Muskingum Garden Club, and the Marietta Y's Men, and was an active member of the United Methodist Women of Norwood United Methodist Church. In later years she worshiped at Christ United Methodist Church and enjoyed spending time at the O'Neil Senior Citizen Center where she sang with the Senior Singers and spent many hours with the RSVP crafters and Euchre group.  Vernice moved to Columbus in 2007 during an acute respiratory illness and remained there after her recovery where she was supported by her family. She regretted leaving Marietta so abruptly and not being able to return to see her dear friends.  She remained active playing cards and enjoyed many activities throughout her stay in an assisted living facility in Columbus where she served as the president of the Residents' Council.

She is survived by her three daughters and their husbands Paula and Ken Renker, Dianne and Robert Schlicher, Jr. and Nina and Lynn McKnight and grandchildren Kerry and Matthew Green, Joshua and Heather McKnight, Kurt and Crystal Schlicher, Stacey and George Gornall, Danielle and Craig Wright, and Maegan Schlicher. She was thrilled to see and hold her great-grandchildren, Alexis and Lucas Wright, William Green, and step greatgrandson, Connor Kasiara. She is also survived by her sister, Elizabeth Gorrell and several nieces and nephews. Her family cherished her and will miss her dearly.

Friends and family will be received on Monday, May 25th at the McClure Schafer Lankford Funeral home in Marietta, Ohio from 2pm to 4 PM and 6-8 PM. Services will be held on Tuesday, May 26th at 11AM at the Christ United Methodist Church in Marietta with the Reverend Don Archer officiating.
