Wilfred L. Wells
Wilfred L. Wells, 94, of Whipple passed away on Monday, March 5, 2012, at Marietta Center.
He was born on September 7, 1917, on Leith Run, New Matamoras, a son of W. A. and Martha J. McMahan Wells. Wilfred graduated from New Matamoras High School and received machinist training through the Henry Ford Trade School in Detroit, MI. He served in the Army during WWII. He retired from Remington Rand/Kardex in 1984 after 39 years of service as a machinist. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
On June 12, 1948, he married Maxine E. Ridgway who preceded him in death on June 30, 2006. Wilfred is survived by 2 sons: Gary L. (Debbie) Wells of Marietta with whom he recently had made his home and John W. (Bonnie) Wells of Whipple; 4 grandchildren: Timothy Wells of Marietta, Tommy (T.J.) Wells of Whipple, Rebecca K. (Chris) Davis and Johnna L. (Brandon) Smith all of Marietta; 3 great granddaughters: Abigail and Hannah Davis and Alexis Smith all of Marietta; cousin and sister-in-law Helen Ridgway, nephew Dennis Drum of Fort Wayne, IN, niece Rebecca Bender of Richlands, NC.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Glen and Larry Wells, sister Ila Drum and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday (Mar. 8) at 1:00pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Roger Rush and Tom Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Township Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday after 1:00 with family present from 1 until 8.
