Donald V. Vanoster

Donald V. Vanoster, 85, of Marietta, passed away on Monday, April 23, 2012.  

 
Don was born on March 19, 1927, in Baltimore, Ohio, to the late Ina Mary Green Vanoster and James W. Vanoster.
 
As a boy growing up in Malta, Ohio, he enjoyed roller skating and attending double features at the McConnelsville Theatre.  He worked as a line supervisor for Monongahela Power for 35 years before retiring in 1988.  He enjoyed reconnecting with other retirees in “Usoldies,”  a group he formed several years after his retirement.  An avid bowler for 45 years, “Don Juan” also had a love for playing bridge.  Don was a talented carpenter and rug weaver and his family and friends enjoyed the many projects he handily crafted for so many years. 
He will be missed by his wife of 36 years, Sandra; daughters Pam Vanoster, Cheryl Mackey, Cappi Kehl and husband Phil Kehl, Cindy Friese, Malea Vanoster,  Faith Stone and husband Mark Stone; sons Danny Vanoster, Clark Mackey and wife Cathy and Chet Mackey and wife Jennifer; 20 grandchildren (Joshua, Sandy, Michelle, Nathan, Audrey, Mickie, Joseph, Orrin, Josh, Jason, Lance, Andrew, Kyle, Katie, Eric, Nikki, Billy, Darrian, Nila, Tanner); 9 great grandchildren and expecting the tenth (Divinity, Devanne, Cody, Landon, Xavier, Leah, Christian, Gage, Abigail); and many extended family and dear friends.
 
He was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Phelps; 2 brothers James Vanoster and Gerald Vanoster; 2 sons, Jeff Vanoster and David Vanoster.
 
Funeral services will be held on Friday (April 27) at 10:30 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Helen Kline officiating.  Following the service and at his request his body will be cremated.  Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 pm on Thursday with family present from 2-4 & 6-8. 
 
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, Columbus Children’s Hospital or St. John’s School in Churchtown, Ohio.
