Jeanne Thornton Van Horn
Jeanne Thornton Van Horn, 93, of Minerva Park, passed away Friday, September 7, 2012.
She was born February 5, 1919 in Washington Courthouse to Donald B. and Viola (Wiedeman) Thornton. Jeanne was a 1936 graduate of Bloomingburg High School and worked as a title clerk at National City Bank. Also, she had served as clerk for the village of Minerva Park for over 20 years. Jeanne was a 50-year member of the Church of the Messiah United Methodist Church and a member of the Bluebird Family and Friends motor coach group. She was very devoted to her grandsons and her nieces and nephews.
On February 1, 1943, she married Howard Wesley Van Horn who preceded her in death in 1983.
Surviving is her daughter Ronda Van Horn (John Nelson) of Farmington Hills, MI and son Terry Van Horn (Karen) of Columbus. Also surviving are her grandchildren Sean Nelson of Farmington Hills, MI and Ryan Nelson of Washington D.C. and her former daughter-in-law Nancy Wright.
In addition to her parents and husband a brother Dale Thornton preceded her in death.
A celebration of her life will be held 4 pm Wednesday Sept. 12th at the Church of the Messiah UMC in Westerville and the family will greet friends from 2 to 4 at the church. Private graveside services will be held in Washington Cemetery in Washington Courthouse. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home of Marietta, Ohio is assisting the family.
