Glynn Marie Daniel

Glynn Marie Daniel passed away peacefully at home in Marietta on Thursday, October 18, 2012. A memorial service will be held at Soul’s Harbor Baptist Church today (October 20) at 3:30PM.

Marie was born in Lockney, Texas, SE of Amarillo.  She married Luther Brack Daniel in 1954, and they were the parents of four children (Terry, Jill, Jade, and Justine “Moca”) and the grandparents of 10 (Annalea, Nat and Gus Thompson, Alden and Conner Daniel, Kori McClellan, and Meagan, Madeline, Jake and Nash Wofford).  She and Brack and their children spent more than a decade in Latin America, where Brack served as a diplomat in Chile and Brazil. Brack and Marie were divorced in 1973.

Marie and the children resided in Amarillo after the divorce; she attended Amarillo College, where she studied nursing. In 1975, she married Rex Daniels and they and the children moved to Rockwall, Texas, where she worked as a nurse for Doctors Kramer McKinney and Les T. Sandknop for more than 20 years. She divorced Daniels in 1977; in 1980, she married Huey Smirl. They divorced in 1984.

In 1999, she moved to Marietta, to be closer to her daughter Jade Thompson. She was a constant companion to Jade and Andy’s youngest son, Gus. She joined the Whipple Baptist Church, and later found a spiritual home at Soul’s Harbor Baptist Church. Soul’s Harbor was a source of many wonderful friendships and great support as she battled cancer. While she was undergoing chemotherapy, fellow church members wore hats as a show of support for her.
Marie is survived by her children and grandchildren, a sister, Christine Donnell of Fort Worth, TX and a brother, David “Deke” Carthel, his wife Sandy, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lois Herbert “Jake” Carthel and Minnie Azalea Carthel, and two brothers: Charles “Sonny” Carthel and James “Jamie” Carthel.

Memorial gifts can be directed in Marie’s name to Soul’s Harbor Church, Caywood Road, Marietta, OH 45750.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.mslfuneralhome.com.
