Edgar Emerson “Ed” Biehl
Edgar Emerson “Ed” Biehl, 99, of Marietta passed away on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at Heartland. He was born on February 11, 1913 to Frank C. and Jessie Gutheil Biehl in Whipple, Ohio. His early childhood was spent in the Fearing Township area. He graduated from Lower Salem High School Class of 1930.
During WWII, he was in the Civil Air Patrol and managed the Marietta Airport where he taught students how to fly. He taught many Army aviators who flew in the war. During the 50’s he taught pilots at Stewart Air Park in Parkersburg. He was employed by Marietta Concrete in the plant and also flew for the company. He later was employed by Broughton Farm Dairy where he both flew Carl Boughton and executives and also managed their large fleet of refrigerated trucks. Later he owned and operated Biehl’s Refrigeration Service until his retirement in 1989.
In 1929, he married Violet Fulton, who was the mother of his children. She passed away in 2001. In 1974, he married Moyra Margaret O’Rourke who preceded in death in 2011.
Ed is survived by 2 daughters and 1 son: Kay (Robert T.) McKnight of Marietta, Linda (Kenneth, Ph.D.) Lewis of Delaware, Ohio, Edgar A. “Butch” (Deanna) Biehl of Haver de Grace, MD; 9 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, 15 great, great grandchildren, 6 great, great, great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son Jimmy, his wives, and brother Richard Ralph Biehl.
Funeral services will be held on at 1:00pm on Friday (Jan. 11) at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend Linda Steelman officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday after 2:00 with family present from 2-4 & 6-8 and on Friday 10-1. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.mslfuneralhome.com.
