Henry T. Grahame, Jr.
Henry T Grahame, Jr “Tom”, 74, of Newport, passed away after a long battle with Alzehiemers on Thursday, March 14, 2013, at 1:53 pm, at home with his family.
He was born July 27,1938, in Cumberland, Maryland to Henry and Hazel Eirich Grahame. He moved to Marietta in 1952 with his family and later made his home in Newport. As a young man he attended Newport High School and later joined the United States Air Force in 1956-1959. He was an airplane mechanic and was stationed at Mather Air Force Base in California and later spent a year in Germany. He later worked at Croy lumber and C. E. Joy. He also was a member of the Union Local 639 as a laborer. In 1971 he started his own business, Tom's Auto Wrecking of Newport, where he ran his wrecker service for a number of years and sold used auto parts . He loved his business more than anything and loved talking to his customers and meeting new people. He ran his business up until his illness in 2006 and his family has kept it going for him since then. He enjoyed farming, oil wells, auctions and spending time at his home place in the hollow and he enjoyed spending time with his family, but most of all he enjoyed working.
He is survived by the love of his life Janet Benson Grahame, They were married May 28,1960 and were married for 52 years. Also survived by his three children: Debbie (Gary) Seevers of Newport, Rose Grahame of Newport, Mike Grahame of Newport; four grandchildren: Patty (Chris) Carpenter of Newport, Jonie (Dean) Haught of Newport, Jessica Christian of Newport, Justin Grahame of Marietta; one great grandson Dylan Carpenter of Newport and special family friend Kevin Schneider of Newport; four sisters: Peggy (Burl) Hays of Newport, Linda Arnold of Beverly, Charlotte (Rick)Carpenter of Macksburg, Ludella Bowers of Florida. and many nieces, nephews and friends and one niece who was raised in the family home, Alice Lynn.
He is preceded in death by his parents, four sisters: Emma Jane Ogle, Genieve Smith, Donna Ross, Suzann Starr and one nephew Patrick Arnold.
Funeral services will be held on Monday (Mar. 18) at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor David Beaver officiating. Burial will follow at Barker Cemetery with military rites.
