  • William Joseph Vernon III (Bill)

    William Joseph Vernon III (Bill), 84, died at home on Monday, October 27, 2025 after a year-long battle with pulmonary fibrosis.
    Bill was born on August 3, 1941, in Charleston General Hospital (W.VA) to William J. Vernon, Jr. and Katherine Elizabeth Vickers Vernon. He lived in Glen Ferris, WV with his parents and sister Betty Jo until the end of his seventh grade. In August of 1954 he and his sister moved to Marietta, Ohio when his father was transferred to the Union Carbide Metals plant as Assistant Supt of the plant’s power station.
    Bill joined his classmates at Marietta High School at the beginning of the eighth grade in 1954, which was on what was then called “high school hill”. He was very happy with his new school and enjoyed meeting his new classmates, many of which he stayed in touch with until his death. He graduated from Marietta High School in 1959.

  • Karen Minta Smitley West

    Karen Minta Smitley West of Marietta went to be with the Lord on Oct. 25, 2025 at Muskingum Skilled Nursing in Beverly, Ohio, surrounded by family.
    She was born Jan. 28, 1949, in Austin, TX, to Ivan, Sr. and Gloria Smitley. She was a graduate of Newport High School. Karen was a caregiver for several years before becoming a Domestic Violence Victims Advocate for Eve, Inc.

    Sandra Lee Nabozny, 83, of Lower Salem, Ohio, passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 19, 1942, in Seattle, Washington, a daughter of the late Clifford John Farrell and Phyllis Aileen Swenson Farrell.

    Shawna Jo Daugherty McKnight was born March 27, 1977, to Cathy (Hill) and Glen Daugherty in Marietta, Ohio. She passed away on October 21, 2025 at Marietta Memorial Hospital due to health issues.
    She is survived by her daughter, Jacey Jo McKnight, husband, James McKnight, brother, Dustin (Mary) Daugherty, nieces, Kelsea (Sam) Bashioum and Kylie Daugherty, nephew, Kyle Daugherty, great niece and nephew, Oakleigh and Camden Bashioum, mother-in-law, Nancy (Ted) Ball, and many family members.

    Warren C. Brookover, 96, of Marietta passed away on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Waterview Pointe. He was born February 5, 1929, in Williamstown, WV, a son of Luther Brookover and Lola Lauderman Brookover.
    Warren retired from Airolite. He like woodworking and love to build and tinker with things and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He and his wife loved to go to the mountains in the fall.

    He was born on August 24, 2007, in Marietta a son of Milton Eddy and Christina Myers Eddy. Gage was a Senior at Washington County Career Center in the Auto Collision and Refinishing Program and Frontier High School. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working on cars, 4 wheeling and trail riding, and Ohio Means Jobs CCMEP. He attended Muskingum Valley Baptist Church.
