Bertie Anderson
Bertie Anderson, 95, of Marietta, passed away September 4, 2008 at Harmar Place.
Bertie was born January 27, 1913 in Harper, WV to the Rev. Henry and Gracie Pettry. She was a homemaker, a member of Minibelle Baptist Church in WV. She was an avid gardener and especially loved working in her rose garden. She was known far and wide for her homemade buttermilk biscuits and apple jelly.
She was married to Roscoe F. Anderson who preceded her in death in 1999.
Bertie is survived by her five children: Roscoe (Jean) Anderson of Fleming, Neva (Chuck) Heller of Charleston, SC, Reva Sims of Columbus, Wiley (Janet) Anderson of Youngstown and Sue (Jim) Stephens of Marietta. She is survived by sisters, Ossie Cox and Pauline (Hanford) Goad of Indian Valley, VA, Eugenia (Ken) Hall of Lincolnville, Maine, a brother, Larry (Cecelia) Pettry of Christianburg, VA. Grandchildren: Michael Anderson, Connie Anderson, Douglas McVay, Christine McVay, Andy Sims, Steven Sims and Tanya Robinson. She is also survived by four step- grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, 8 great step-grandchildren, one great, great grandchild and 2 great, great step-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by brothers, Willie, Maltbie, Roy and Harry Pettry and sisters, Imogene Reese and Guida Roop and a brother and sister who died in infancy.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm Sunday, September 7th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Lloyd Westbrook officiating. Burial will follow in Valley Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 pm Saturday until the hour of service. Family will be present to greet friends from 6pm to 8 pm on Saturday.
