John H. “Jinks” Newlon

John H. “Jinks” Newlon, 74, of Lowell, passed away at 8:30 am, Friday, December 29, 2017, at his home. He was born November 28, 1943, in Marietta a son of Samuel Delbert Newlon and Nola Helmick Newlon.

John was a graduate of Marietta High School in 1962. He was employed for 35 years in the Maintenance Department of Marietta College, retiring in 2007.

On June 14, 1964, he married Sue Lang who preceded him in death on October 16, 2009. John is survived by his daughter, Melissa (Alan) Treadway of Marietta; 9 grandchildren: Timothy, Thomas, Jessica, Samantha, Megan, Karley, Keith, Nikki, and Tessi; 9 great grandchildren: Terence, Wade, Daysie, John Edward, Annie Sue, Allie, Jaiden, Bryce, Sophia. He is also survived by 5 brothers: Delbert, Kenny, Randall, Calvin, and Clark; 4 sisters: Elda Kay, Ella May, Almeda Sue and Rhonda.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, son Gene “Bird” Newlon, daughter Penny Whealdon, brother Russell and great grandson Zachery.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (Jan. 2) at 2:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with interment following in Rainbow Cemetery.
