Bernice M. “Grannie” Pickering
Bernice M. “Grannie” Pickering, 92, of Cutler, passed away at 12:58 am on Saturday, February 12, 2011, at her home.
She was born on November 17, 1918, in Little Hocking, a daughter of the late Charles Wilmer and Linna Clark Sealey. She retired after 30 years from B. F. Goodrich. She enjoyed cooking, farming and gardening and loved her family and friends. She was a Methodist by faith.
On October 19, 1935, she married Earl Place who preceded her in death. They had 1 son, Delmer Sonny Place who died on November 26, 2008. Later she married Frank Pickering who preceded her in death, and 2 stepdaughters and 3 stepsons who also preceded her in death: Ullnee Whaley, Naomi Hearn and Chuck, Otis and Ray Place.
Grannie is survived by her daughter-in-law, Edna Place of Cutler; grandchildren: Theresa (Tom) Nice, Sonny L. (Karen) Place, Loretta (Pat) Decker; grandchildren: Shelly Nice, Caitlin Decker, Colton Decker; Step grandchildren: Daryl (Becky) Hearn, Mike (Bev) Hearn, Steve (Kelly) Hearn, James Hearn, Jr., Larry (Donna) Place, John (Kathy) Place, David (Lisa) Place, Kenny (Becky) Place, Regina (Raymond) Williams, Patty (Dave) Bailes; god children: Ethen Ruble, Linsey Hendrickson, Joey Hendrickson, Brayden Hendrickson. She is also survived by her sister, Carrie (Mike) Turner; half brothers and sisters: Charles (Shirley) Sealey, Gene ( Debbie) Sealey, Darlene (William) Smith, Wayne (Barb) Sealey, Gary (Ruth) Sealey, special niece Myrtle Hendrickson and god sister, Marie Sealey.
She was also preceded in death by grandson Jeremy Place, and sisters: Gladys Flesher, Mary Cottrell and Pauline Funk.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (February 15th) at 10:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in Layman Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday after 2:00 pm. Online condolences may be shared with the family at: www.mslfuneralhome.com.
