Robert Gearhart

Robert Gearhart, 79, of Marietta passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at his home. He was born January 16, 1940, in Marietta a son of the late Virgil L. and Mildred Dobbins Gearhart.

Robert served in the U. S. Army from 1958 to 1965 as part of the Berlin Crisis from 1958 to 1961, Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962 and the beginning of the Vietnam War. He was a member of American Legion Post 64 and Fort Harmar Rifle Club. He worked for Rich Loaf Bread/Pennington Bakery for 25 years and then Morrison, Inc., for the next 25 years before retirement. He liked hunting, fishing, Cincinnati Reds and Ohio State Buckeyes. He was a member of Souls Harbor Baptist Church and part of the Seedline Ministry.

On July 25, 1959, he married Betty Eddy Gearhart who preceded him in death November 16, 2002. He is survived by one daughter and one son: Diana (Wayne) Bennett and David Gearhart both of Marietta; 2 granddaughters, Amber (Joshua) McDougal of Beverly and Amy (Daniel) Gallagher of Marietta; 7 great grandchildren: Rion, Nathan, Tylor, Isaac McDougal and Aubrielle, Dylon, Evan Gallagher. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Yvonne (Clark) Harter of Newark DE and Mary (Robert) Hartline of Marietta, sister-in-law Phyllis Gearhart of Marietta; 3 brothers: Ralph D. Gearhart of Marietta, Roger Gearhart of Marietta, George (Elizabeth) Gearhart of Zanesville and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, and wife, he was preceded in death by his brother Virgil E. Gearhart.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (May 28) at 1:00 pm at Souls Harbor Baptist Church with burial following in East Lawn Memorial Park. Family will greet friends on Monday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home from 2-4 and 6-8 and one hour before the service at the church. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
