William Cletis West

William Cletis West, 94, of Marietta, Ohio passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 12th, 2020 at Heartland of Marietta. He was born on March 28, 1926 in Vickers, WV to Ivy West and Edna Harris West.
He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army serving in the 813th 1st Allied Airborne Division, where he served in the European Theater with rank of Staff Sergeant. He participated in the Rhineland Campaign in central Europe and received an EAME Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, a Victory Medal World War II, an Army of Occupation Medal Germany and a Good Conduct Medal.
He was an electrician by trade and worked for Carver’s Electric and Plumbing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved spending time with his family and at his cabin on the river in Lowell, Ohio. He was a true outdoorsman and loved studying the weather. He never met a stranger and loved his Saturday morning trips to Rinks. He will be forever missed by everyone who knew him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Thelma Wittekind West who passed away May 24, 2017; four sisters, Eva West, Cricket Hendershot, Dorothy Wittekind, and Belva Strickland of Marietta, Ohio and one brother, Ron West of Wilmington, NC. He is survived by one sister, Fran Carver (Kenny). Many nieces and nephews also survive him.
Those left to cherish his memory are daughter, Cheryl Arnold (Ron) of Marietta, Ohio; daughter Tonja Mahan of Little Hocking, Ohio; son Shane West of Marietta, Ohio; and son William Jeff West of Marietta, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren Rachel Riordan (Corey) of Moseley, VA; Jessie Fenton (Andy) of Williamstown, WV; Jane Mahan of Little Hocking, Ohio; Billy Mahan of Little Hocking, Ohio; great-granddaughter, Violet Riordan, and great-grandson, Grayson Fenton.
Graveside services for William Cletis West, 94, of Marietta who passed away on April 12, 2020, will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 8, at Gravel Bank Cemetery with full military honors. McClure-Schafer-Lankford is assisting the family.
