Robert H. Morris

Portrait of Robert H. Morris

Robert H. Morris, 92, of Beverly, Ohio, passed away at 7:30 pm Friday, May 29, 2020 at Highland Oaks Health Center.

He was born in Washington County to Lester A. and Florence Davis Morris on August 9, 1927.

Robert “Bob” was a graduate of Vincent High School, Class of 1945. Following graduation, he enlisted in the Navy Reserve and served with the Pacific 7 Fleet on the USS Moore DE 240 and the USS Samuel N Moore DD 747. Following discharge in 1946, he worked building silos in a crew with his father throughout the Shenandoah Valley. He then worked with the Washington County Highway Department for 30 years and retired in 1981.

On May 30, 1948, he married Betty M. Schwarz. They had over 66 years together. Betty passed away on March 28, 2015. Bob always said they were like two peas in a pod; where one went, the other was there, too. They were often seen volunteering, calling Bingo at Muskingum Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, or walking the Beverly neighborhood hand in hand. He often talked about how it was quite lonely without her; he joined her in Heaven just in time for their 72nd Wedding Anniversary.

Surviving is his son and a daughter: Harvey (Patricia) Morris of Medina, Ohio and Alta Jean (Ralph) Coffman of Beverly, Ohio. Surviving Grandchildren: Meredith (Andrew) Chan, Chad (Carmen) Coffman, Kelly (Brock) Robertson, Joel (Eric) Huck, Julie (Caleb) Hunter, and Alicia (Bryan) Phelps. Surviving Great-Grandchildren: Mia Chan, Caden, Belle, and Athena Coffman, Reed and Reese Robertson, Brenden, Lexie, Camryn, and Jantzyn Huck, and Kendra and Kinsley Hunter. He is also survived by his sister Dorothy Jean Goudy (Edward deceased) of Millersburg, Ohio. His parents, Lester and Florence Morris, and his brother Roland, who was killed in the Korean War, preceded him in death.

Bob loved gospel and bluegrass music, good food, sharing jokes with friends, traveling the world, and patriotism. He was a lifetime member of PERS and American Legion 64. Bob’s wishes were to be cremated, and his family will gather privately to celebrate his life. Please honor him by enjoying life’s best moments and laughing often.

McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
