Eleanor Blair

Eleanor Blair, 93, of Marietta, passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011, at 9:05 pm at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born on October 5, 1917, in Belmont, West Virginia, a daughter of Frank C. and Sylvia Braun Cantner.  She attended school in St. Marys, WV, and had been employed by the Marietta City Schools Cafeteria until her retirement.  Eleanor was a 60-year member of Eastern Star and had volunteered for the American Red Cross as a Grey Lady, American Cancer Society, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church where she enjoyed working on wedding receptions.  She enjoyed crocheting, water walking at The Betsey Mills and visiting with her neighbors, friends and family.

On June 1, 1935, she married Boyd C. Blair who preceded her in death on July 5, 1972.

Eleanor is survived by 1 son and 1 daughter:  Frank (Sandy) Blair of Columbus and Vivian (John David) Hammat of Marietta; grandchildren:  Kassandra (Dan) Casey, Betsy Blair (Joe) Roderick, Frank (Lisa) Blair II, Sean (Jaime) Blair all of Columbus, John (Lisa) Hammat and Susan Hammat (Rick) Butler both of Marietta. She is also survived by great grandchildren:  Cody Weston Blair, Erin Casey, Daniel Casey, Frank Blair III, Addison Blair, Benjamin Roderick, Jordyn Roderick, Chelsea Hammat, Christopher Hammat.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by great grandson Alexander Roderick, sister Faye Harra, brother Richard Cantner.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday (February 1st) at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Reverend George Spransy officiating.  Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.   Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday afternoon after 2:30 with family present from 2:30-4:30 & 6-8.  

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial contributions to the Deacon’s Fund, First Presbyterian Church, 501 Fourth Street, Marietta.
