Donald Eugene Maxon, Sr., 75, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away on Friday, April 17, 2026, at Select Specialty Hospital Southeast, in Newark, OH. He was born on September 3, 1950, in Marietta, OH to Ruth (Smith) and Thomas Maxon.

After graduating from Marietta High School in 1968, Don attended Hobart Welding School in Troy, OH. In May of 1970, he enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Davisville, Rhode Island. He was an electrician with the Mobile Construction Battalion (Seabees), serving tours in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Diego Garcia, and Antarctica.

On August 8, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart and neighbor, Kathy (Carver) Maxon and they recently celebrated 55 years of marriage. After his honorable discharge from the Navy in 1974, Don was employed by Carver’s Electric, Plumbing, and Heating, in Marietta, OH. He was a master plumber and estimator and served as President of Carver’s for many years.

Throughout his life, he volunteered with many organizations to coach little league and softball and was a driver of the equipment trailers for the Marietta Wall of Sound for 8 years.

Don was a member of the Evergreen Bible Church in Williamstown, WV since 1976. He served many years as a Trustee/Deacon, nursery volunteer for 30 years and a game leader and Sparks worker for AWANA for 42 years. He was loved by all the children of the church because he never grew up.

Don loved being around family and treasured every moment spent together. He enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren’s activities at Marietta and Eastern Schools. Also, he was an avid sports fan for Ohio State, Cincinnati Reds and Bengals, and NASCAR. Don visited all 50 states and loved to travel with his wife and in-laws. Don was a member of the Pioneer Family Golf Center and will be greatly missed by his brothers-in-law, Dave Drennen, Dave Koon, and Steve Yoho. In his spare time, he liked to draw, play the guitar, watch movies and westerns, and put together puzzles, especially at the beach.

Don is survived by his wife, Kathy (Carver) Maxon, and was a proud father of two sons, Donald Jr. (Beth) and Dustin (Kate) and one daughter, Darcie (Bruce) Dye and seven grandchildren, Mollie, Megan, Ethan, Asher, Owen, Ella Maxon, and Maxon Dye. He is also survived by two siblings, Dean Maxon and Denise (Mike) Maxon-Traxler and many nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Maxon, Jr. (D.J.), his parents Ruth and Thomas Maxon, in-laws Kenneth and Frances Carver, brothers Dennis and Dale Maxon, and sister, Deborah Alphin.

Friends, family, and the community are welcome to celebrate Don’s life on Saturday, May 2, 2026, with visitation at 9:30 AM and a service at 11 AM at the Evergreen Bible Church, Williamstown, WV. For those attending, please feel free to share a fond memory or story of Don’s life. Following the services, a meal will be served.
