Hester Lucinda Erb McCain, passed away peacefully at her home on January 1, 2025, at the age of 96.

Born on November 13, 1928, to David and Rebecca Holiday Erb, Hester was a sister to the late Virgil, William, Herbert, Pearl, David, James, Gary and Mary Lou Erb, Jeanette Neville, Bonita Williams, and Carrie Hallett. She is survived by Ruth (Bradley) Morris, Ronald (Yvonne) Erb, Dale (Paula) Erb, Imogene Tidd, and John (Barbara) Erb. Hester was united in marriage to Dean McCain on October 2, 1948, and together they built a life centered in love, faith, and family. She was a devoted mother to her four children: Kenneth, Dale (Karen), Kathleen Finley-Boggs, and Deana (James) Barnes.

Hester is now reunited in peace with her beloved husband, Dean, her children Kenneth, Dale, and Deana, as well as her sons-in-law, David Finley and Gary Boggs, who preceded her in death.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, especially her grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and happiness: Andrea (Mitch) Davis, Lisa (Zach) Michael, Missy (Bob) Hibbard, Amanda (Steve) Herron, Jamey (Jill) Barnes, Tiffany (Dan) Roe, Alishia Barnes, Justin (Stormy) Barnes, and Clinton Barnes. Her legacy continues through hergreat-grandchildren: Colton, Jacey, Asher, Sierra, Bailey, Blaine, Brennan, Gracie, Gage, Jaedyn, Breezlyn, Rage, Collin, Cameron, Jenna, Ashton (Dyrk), McKinlee, Joey, Bobby, Alex, Reed, Steven, Jordan (Kaitland), and Alexandrea (Richard); and her great-great-grandchildren: Haylen, Avery, Felicity, Jaxson, and Jayce. She is also survived by many devoted nieces and nephews.

Hester had a deep appreciation for the beauty of nature and spent countless hours tending to her garden and flowers, which were a reflection of her nurturing spirit. She cherished her time with family, offering unconditional love, guidance, and wisdom to all generations.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A celebration of life will take place on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 10:30 AM, followed by burial at Rake Cemetery. A luncheon will follow Saturday at 12:30pm at The Historic Lafayette Hotel Ballroom.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Amedisys Hospice, in honor of Hester’s memory and her compassionate, loving heart.  Hester will be dearly missed by all who knew her, but her legacy of love and devotion will continue to inspire those she leaves behind.
