Ruth Ellen Iddings Hall

Portrait of Ruth Ellen Iddings Hall

Ruth Ellen Iddings Hall, 77, of State Route 26, Marietta, Ohio, passed peacefully on Monday, September 23, 2024.

Ruth, the daughter of the late Howard and Ruth Audrey Iddings, of Marietta, Ohio, was born on November 26, 1946 in St. Clairsville, Ohio. She lived on the Iddings Farm Dairy until she was 13 years old when she and her parents moved to New Matamoras, Ohio. They owned the Ben Franklin store there. She graduated from Stover High School (New Matamoras, Ohio) in 1964 and Kent State University in 1969.

Three weeks after her college graduation, on March 29, 1969, she married her high school sweetheart, Thomas Eugene Hall. Together they moved to Clyde, Ohio where she taught Spanish at Port Clinton High School. After three years, they moved back to Marietta when Tom started working at Iddings Trucking. During these years, Ruthie taught Spanish in many school districts throughout Washington County, including Fort Frye, Marietta City Schools, and finally retiring from Wolf Creek Local Schools with 25 years of total service. She also owned The Ye Olde Cross Stitch Cupboard for seven years with her mother and sister, Sally Waters.

Ruthie was a member of the Marietta First Church of the Nazarene for 50 years. As a born-again Christian, she loved the Bible and was a prayer warrior. She cherished her family, and loved her grandchildren. She prayed for her entire family everyday.

Ruthie was full of life. She loved to cross stitch, rug hook, and garden. She especially loved roses, phlox, coneflowers, beebalm, and ferns. Her flower gardens were on display at the annual Marietta Garden Tour in 2003. She always had a tube of lipstick in her pocket and a pair of gold hoop earrings in. Tom and Ruthie always looked forward to a Friday night date to Jimmy Colombo’s Italian Restaurant. She also loved to follow the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Ruthie is survived by 3 children and 10 grandchildren, all of Marietta: daughter, Amy Ketchum (Damon), and children Abigail, Molly, Nathan, and Madelyn; son, Chad Hall (Vickie), and daughters, Brooke and Bridgette; and daughter, Kirsten Goeller (James), and children Cameron, Seth, Audrey, and Sydney. She is also survived by her sisters, Sally Waters, of Marietta and Sue Cupps (Stephen) of South Charleson, West Virginia; sister-in-law, Carol Gay, of New Matamoras; faithful caregiver for 13 years, Leeanna Love; dearest friend of 65 years, Mary McMahon, of New Matamoras; and many wonderful cousins, nieces and nephews.

Ruthie is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 52 years; parents; sibling, Doris Loeber, of Marietta; in-laws Ray Waters of Marietta, Charles Hall, Donald Hall, Lois and Jack Taylor, all of New Matamoras, Sue Hoffman, of Indianapolis, Indiana; and infant grandson, Brice James Goeller.

The family would also like to thank her other caregivers: Margaret, Judy, Cheryl, Lorraine, Susie, and Mindi, for their loving care throughout the years.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home, 314 Fourth Street, Marietta, Ohio with Pastor Kevin D’Ettorre officiating. Graveside services will follow at East Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. and Thursday at 10am until the time of the service.
