Phyllis Spires
Phyllis Spires, age 90, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away on Mother’s Day, May 10, 2026.
Phyllis was born on February 18, 1936, to the late Delbert and Ora Stewart. She was a graduate of Parkersburg High School, Class of 1954, and earned her nursing degree in 1957 from Camden Clark Medical School. Phyllis made history as the first female captain of the West Virginia Civil Air Patrol.
Throughout her distinguished career in nursing, she served as Director of Nurses at several hospitals, including Tampa General Hospital, Selby General Hospital, Marietta Memorial Hospital, and Camden Clark Medical Center. She also worked at Spencer State Hospital and the famous Chestnut Lodge Mental Hospital in Maryland. In addition to her work in healthcare, Phyllis was active in real estate.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her brother, Don Stewart and his wife, Anna, and her son, Kevin Ebra.
Phyllis was a proud mother of four boys: Kevin (Jolie), Sean (Barb), Brian Ebra, and Greg Levitre. She is also survived by her two special stepdaughters she helped raise, Kim and Denise Queenga; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Her granddaughter, Ryan Ebra, lovingly helped care for her during her final months.
Phyllis also leaves behind her lifelong friends, Maryann, Ruth, Betty, Barb, and Millie, who were like family.
Phyllis will be laid to rest at Rainbow Cemetery. Per her wishes, no services will be held. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family and messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.
